Ruptured popliteal cyst and pyogenic arthritis.

چکیده
Chadwick et al divided a group of patients with supraspinal myoclonus into three categories.3 One group responded poorly to serotonergic drugs-namely, clonazepam and 5-hydroxytryptophan; a second group had proximal myoclonus, prominent spikes on the electroencephalogram, excellent response to serotonergic drugs, and physiological features suggesting that abnormal discharges originated in the brain-stem reticular formation (reticular reflex myoclonus). The third group showed mainly distal myoclonus, few sharp waves on the electroencephalogram, and only moderate response to serotonergic drugs; a cortical origin of the myoclonus was postulated for this group. Recently Chadwick and French' suggested that two uraemic patients whom they studied clinically had reticular reflex myoclonus.

Ruptured septic popliteal cyst associated with psoriatic arthritis.
Popliteal cyst (Baker’s cyst) was first described by Adams in 1840, popularized by Baker in 1877, and was theorized as an enlarged gastrocnemiussemimembranosus bursa that communicated with the knee and trapped synovial fluid.1 Numerous bursa are located in the popliteal space between the knee ligaments, hamstring tendons, gastrocnemius muscle, and collateral ligaments. The two proposed etiologi...
متن کاملRuptured Baker’s Cyst in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Report of Three Patients
Popliteal cysts occur commonly both in normal and arthritic knees. Most cysts are formed by distension of the medially situated semimembranosus bursa. Herein, we describe three children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis and ruptured popliteal cysts which produced leg complaints. Ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging were performed in the diagnosis of all cases for better evaluation of the ...
متن کاملRuptured popliteal cyst stimulating deep vein thrombosis with false positive radiofibrinogen uptake.
A case is described in which deep vein thrombosis of the calf was initially diagnosed on the basis of the clinical signs and the radiofibrinogen uptake in a patient suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. The correct diagnosis of ruptured popliteal cyst was later established by arthrography and phlebography. Attention is drawn to the unreliability of the radiofibrinogen uptake test in the presence...
متن کاملSeptic arthritis of the knee associated with calf abscess.
Septic arthritis associated with extra-articular abscess is rare. We report on 2 non-rheumatic patients with septic arthritis of the knee associated with calf abscess. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a distinct leakage pathway from the knee joint in each patient. One was a ruptured popliteal cyst (posteromedial). Another was a pathologic popliteus hiatus (posterolateral). These patients under...
متن کاملRuptured Popliteal Cyst Diagnosed by Ultrasound Before Evaluation for Deep Vein Thrombosis
Most popliteal cysts are asymptomatic. However, cysts may rupture, resulting in pain and swelling of the leg that could also arise from other diseases, including deep vein thrombosis, lymphedema, cellulitis, and tear of a muscle or tendon. Therefore, it is difficult to diagnose a ruptured popliteal cyst based on only a patient's history and physical examination. Musculoskeletal ultrasound has b...
